What is your mission statement? Our mission is to Worship God We will carry out our mission according to the unique gifts of the Holy Spirit as a community of faith in the Reformed and evangelical tradition. Therefore we aim to: Worship God in ways which embrace both the rich heritage of the Christian tradition as well as contemporary forms of praise and prayer. Challenge the mind, stir the heart and equip for ministry through biblical preaching and teaching. Provide comprehensive Christian education in which the Scriptures and the teachings of the church are made relevant to our lives and callings. Promote growth in prayer and the disciplines of life in the Spirit. Build Christ-centered fellowship through relationships of mutual sharing, Bible study, prayer and accountability. Embrace our genuine diversity in Christ by committing ourselves to openly discuss issues and problems in an atmosphere of prayer, love and unity. Declare the Good News of God's salvation in Jesus Christ with eagerness and sensitivity among our neighbors, friends and colleagues, with openness to all those whom God brings into our fellowships. Support God's global mission through the work and passions of members of our congregation and denominational ministries. Care for each other and for those in our wider community through helping ministries. Where do your offerings go? Offering Schedule Two offerings are taken each Sunday morning: the first offering is always for the General Fund, which pays for operating costs, denominational support and budgeted funds. The second offering each Sunday morning is for special causes that are not included in the annual budget. Offerings for Missions and CRWRC fulfill a pledge amount but are not part of the budget. What missions do you support? SBCRC supports three missionary families through prayers, letters and offerings. Missionaries correspond via letters and periodic visits and presentations. Caspar and Leanne Geisterfer (son Reuben) work for the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) in Haiti. Leanne is working for CRWRC as field director for all of Haiti. CRWRC works in conjunction with CRWM (Christian Reformed World Missions). Together, they work in cooperation with local agencies to alleviate poverty and illiteracy and enable the Haitian people to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible. What type of outreach do you participate in? SBCRC values the importance of being a witness of God’s love and justice in the community. The Deacons of Outreach regularly communicate with several local agencies to identify their needs. This information is shared with the congregation so that individuals and groups can participate in fulfilling those needs. A survey of the congregation's interests and talents is also conducted annually in order to match our resources with our community’s needs. See information under Our Community and Local Outreach for specific organizations and opportunities. |
