Weekly Bible Studies:

Fall, 2010
Dear Women of SBCRC,

As the school year begins it is time to remind you about Bible study opportunities for the women of SBCRC and their guests. There will be three meetings this year -- two groups that meet simultaneously on Tuesday mornings and another on Thursday evenings.

Rebecca Hall will lead a study called "Spiritual Transformation through Christian Discipleship" It is especially designed for younger Christians, but is useful for all levels of growth. Maggie Noll will be leading a study of Exodus on Tuesday mornings, repeating it on Thursday evenings. Tuesday studies, which meet at the church, begin with a time of refreshment and conversation at 9:30 and conclude by 11:15. The Thursday evening group meets at Maggie's (call the church for directions 574.272.8424), beginning at 7:15 and concluding at 9:00. Childcare is provided for the morning studies, but not for the evening one. There is no charge for materials or childcare. Regular meetings begin on September 14th and 16th and run through December 14thand 16th with breaks on November 2nd, 4th, 23rd, and 25th.

Both studies use a discussion format based on materials that are distributed ahead of time. This is what we look forward to:
Spiritual Transformation: We will discuss what it means to be a Christian and explore ten core values for spiritual formation. Curriculum is based on the Pursuing Spiritual Transformation series by Willow Creek Resources and Loving God, Loving Others: The Jesus Creed, by Scot McKnight.
Exodus: We will be reading Exodus as "God's own sacred drama with respect to our own lives." And we will be thinking together about the "character of God [revealed] through his covenant promises and persistent faithfulness to the people of Israel. Through the story of Israel we [will be] exposed to an unquenchable fire: God the Savior, the Companion and the Indweller, who will not fail those who so often fail him."

Our prayer for these studies echoes that of the apostle Paul in his letter to the Colossians, "asking that [we] may be filled with the knowledge of God's* will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10so that [we] may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as [we] bear fruit in every good work and as [we] grow in the knowledge of God."

Looking forward to opportunities to encourage each other in friendship, prayer, and the study of God's word.
