TODAY WE CELEBRATE the many teachers and leaders who have been involved in the lives and the faith formation of our children and youth during this school year. We are blessed to have 38 teachers serving as Church School teachers, TLC and CWC leaders, Kidz and Boys' and Girls' Club leaders, Youth Leaders, and Children's Choir Leaders. Please offer them your heartfelt expressions thanks today. Gifts of appreciation for each leader are in the atrium and should be picked up today. During the coffee hour, root beer floats will be served in the teachers' honor in the Fellowship Hall. All children are urged to sit at tables with these potentially very messy treats.

A WELCOMING BASKET FOR THE ROEDA’S: In order to welcome our new pastor, Mark Roeda and his family to South Bend this summer, the Hospitality Team would like to assemble a gift basket from the church. The basket will be full of gift cards, passes, tickets or homemade certificates of things to do, places to go, or services to be offered in South Bend . Anyone or any group of people can contribute to this basket and we encourage as many people as possible to do so! Please include a personalized note from yourself or the group of people giving the item telling a little about why you chose the place, event, activity or service (maybe why you like it yourself!) and maybe including something about yourself. Thank you for joining together to welcome this new family and our new pastor! If you have any questions or would like to donate please contact Amy Smith at (530) 383-4412

MINISTER OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE Paula Triezenberg will be out of the office until May 10.

COUNCIL NEWS: The Full Council met this past Tuesday evening.

Both Phil Apol and Ron Vander Griend visited to report on their work and changes in their positions, in compliance with classical requirements for our holding their ministerial credentials.

David Banga, Sally Fisher and Paula Triezenberg gave staff reports and were encouraged by the Council.

It was decided to nominate replacements in May for Dan Machiela and Lucie Marsden who are moving before their terms are complete. The congregation is encouraged to submit names of those who should serve the church as elder and/or deacon to Kevin Kuyers, the Council Chair.

David Lodge was affirmed as the vice-chair of the Council and Administrative Council. It is expected that he will assume the chair in 2009 when Kevin Kuyers retires as elder. Howard Cole, current vice-chair of the deacons will assume the chair from Lucie Marsden in June, 2008.

Meeting nights for elders and deacons and CIC have been moved to Monday nights for meetings on May 19, June 16, July 14 and August 18. Congregational members are welcome to attend any of these meetings.

Council approved a financial policy for our short-term mission trips and approved a proposal from the Outreach Team for a mission trip to the Ukraine in the summer of 2009.

The Council and ministry team leaders will attend a retreat at church on May 31 where the Vision Team will roll out their work. The leadership will review research results and give input to the vision strategies and priorities we should pursue. The congregation will have opportunity to do the same at a later date.
